Known for its character and premium quality, our selvedge denim is woven on shuttle looms from the 1950s.
All HebTroCo jeans are made from selvedge denim. You might have seen the stripe in the turn-up. But what does selvedge actually mean?
The word “selvedge” comes from “self-edged,” which describes how the weaving loom finishes the edges of the denim. Selvedge denim is made on vintage shuttle looms. These looms are smaller, slower, and noisier than modern ones, but they create denim with far superior character and durability. Watch the video to see how the looms work and to learn more about the process.
Candiani are masters in their craft, producing some of the world’s best selvedge denim.
Environmental sustainability is at the forefront of all stages of production at Candiani. Their dye process is micro-plastics-free, they use solar power and water recycling, and all their cotton is BCI certified.
Most of the selvedge we use is Regenagri© certified denim (which supports regenerative agriculture) or 100% Organic Cotton. We are proud to be one of the first brands in the world to use Regenagri© denim cloth to make our jeans.
Collect Mill was established in 1992 in Kojima as part of the Japanese old-style-denim renaissance. Along with other renowned mills they started to reproduce traditional raw denim,
They have an artisanal approach to denim production with an emphasis on taking more time to make less cloth better. Highest quality cotton only is selected and blended. The tension and stubbiness (uneven thickness) of yarn is varied by experienced specialists to define the final look and feel of your jeans.
Everything is rope dyed rather than on a beam. The yarns are twisted together and cycled through repeated dipping and oxidisation. The process results in deeper darker tones and gives a ‘3D colour’. Again this involves a greater investment of time.
