Denim is 100% organic cotton (GOTS certified) from the world famous Candiani denim mill near Milan in Italy. Only a few available.
If you’re going to **** up then **** up like this. Spot on fit as usual, beautiful deep blue denim and you can tell it’s going to break in so well. I can get all my usual clutter in the pockets and still have room for an emergency pie. Brilliant bit of kit.

The story of the Iron Shirt.
A love of the heavy sounds of Lee “Scratch” Perry gave us the ambition several years ago to make the Iron Shirt. If you don’t know the tune you need to search out ‘Disco Devil’. Back then our idea was a bit of a joke but it turns out that we were deadly serious.
The truth is we sent the wrong denim to our supplier to make this shirt. It was time to restock our Selvedge Denim Overshirt but instead of ordering 8oz shirt denim, we ordered the 16oz that we use for our M16 jeans and jackets. Ah.
We knew something was up when the factory said that the denim was a bit stiff and that they were having problems getting the finished shirts into our standard bags. 200 shirts arrived in a courier van that was riding low into its suspension. The boxes were very heavy.
Then bad got worse. The standard press studs that are perfect for our usual 8oz shirt were not suitable for the heavier cloth. Breathe and the shirts popped open. Despite this apparent tragedy we couldn’t help thinking that the shirt was actually really good.
In this business we’ve got used to dealing with problems. After all we started the company just as the Brexit vote happened followed by Covid and the non stop apocalypse that’s followed. Keep calm and carry on making really good stuff is the mantra. It’s worked so far and fingers crossed the good ship HebTroCo will steer a successful course through the stormy sea that is life. Anyway….
After a tense session with the pliers it turned out that our amazing factory could swap out the press studs for some heavy weight ones. 2,400 press studs later and we have a shirt made to jacket weight and specification, that we never would have dared to do. Sometimes you’ve just got to put on your Iron Shirt and dance with the disco devil.

What is Selvedge denim?
Selvedge is a premium denim woven only on vintage shuttle looms.
Compared to modern projectile looms, selvedge looms are smaller, slower and very noisy, but the character and durability of the denim they produce is unmatched.
The loom’s low yield is why selvedge is considered a premium denim and not the go-to choice for mass-market jeans.
The word “selvedge” comes from “self-edged,” which describes how the loom finishes the edges of the denim.

Denim from Candiani
Candiani are masters in their craft, producing some of the world’s best selvedge denim.

Size Guide
In the photos: Ed is 5’8″ / 10.5 stone and wears a size Medium.
Will fit a sweatshirt or light jumper underneath.
16oz denim is initially stiff but will soften with wear.
Because it’s a thick 1kg shirt, it feels more fitted and so if you want it to feel loose, go up a size.

Product Care
Wash as little as possible.
When you really need to wash it, either soak in the bath in lukewarm water then drip dry or 30 degree machine wool wash, no spin and drip dry. Spinning will result in bad faded creases.
Avoid white upholstery as this colour will transfer until you’ve worn it in and washed it..

I have built up a modest collection of Hebtroco items over the years but the Indigo Iron Shirt my wife bought for my birthday is exceptional. So exceptional that I strongly suspect that the jute version will be my xmas present.
The actual item looks so much better in reality, the pictures don’t do it justice.
I’m 6’4′ and the XL fits me perfectly and I can wear a wool jumper underneath.
I’m really looking forward to the years of wear I’ll get out of this shirt.

I recently made my first purchase from Hebtroco and what an expensive joyous mistake that has been! I’ve already ordered a pair of jeans as well as my moleskin overshirt but this iron shirt in double black is my favourite of the lot.
I went for 3xl as I am a 6’2″ 20 stone BFB and the fit is perfect, delivery was quick and although this was the most expensive overshirt I’ve ever bought I just know I’ll be wearing it in years to come.
I’ve already got the indigo version sitting in my basket (must…resist…)
Overall fantastic quality style and overall experience, and i love that everything is British made. I will keep supportin this company as long as they continue making such good stuff, so keep it up!
As an aside, it is so refreshing to see sizing that goes up to 3xl and 44″ waist, I am often left out and unable to wear clothes I like due to being a big guy, another reason I love this brand.

I had some of the original overskirts and this is a step forward in design with the concealed hand pockets, cut and finish Size is great as XL is normally too small and XXL too big, but this hits the sweet spot
With some time, love and care it going to be brilliant and no need to ever buy another shirt (well until the next release)

Got the iron shirt as a birthday present for my other half and he loves it! He wanted something tough enough for work (he fettles espresso machines) that he’s happy to keep on for the pub afterwards. It’s certainly a substantial item! The fabric is hefty but not too stiff. Nice fit (one size up from usual was perfect). Looks like it will last a lifetime and fit in everywhere it goes.
