It’s thick cloth with a raised, soft outside surface. The fabric has been brushed and cut to give an even pile. All our trousers have the pile running from top to bottom, so that if you brush down the leg you are following the line of the nap. When people admire your moleskin trousers they usually want a feel!
If you look closely you can see the texture. This is nothing compared to wearing moleskin though. The heavy cloth is warm, resisting cold and wind which is why it was used in the past for making workwear and more recently has been the choice of country people who value the combination of its cosiness and hard wearing qualities. Moleskin also resists brambles and other thorns better than most other cloth.
