World Curlew Day is on Friday 21 April and we’ve got no socks… but there is hope.
Saving curlews isn’t easy and neither is making clothes in Britain!
Habitat loss is the issue. Change in land use threatens Britains largest and most wonderful wading bird. Loss of skills and facilities makes it harder to find people to make good clothes. Curlews we feel your pain!
Charities like Curlew Action are doing their damnedest to conserve and raise awareness. We support them by selling Curlew Socks with all profit going to this good cause.
So popular were these socks that we sold out at Christmas. Then the sock machine in Scotland broke. Parts took ages to get. No socks for 4 months and meanwhile curlews are on the nests. Oh the shame!
There is hope.
Hope for socks…
The machine is fixed. We’re in the queue for production and will have socks end May/start June. You can sign up to the ‘waitlist’ on our socks product page.
You can also join the fun at the World Curlew Day in the New Forest on Friday. Ed will be bikepacking his way down there from the north.
Finally if you love to see and hear curlews you can sling Curlew Action a donation. It all helps.
Hope for curlews…
Is basically in our hands. People are waking up to nature depletion in the UK. We’re finally recognising the value of these ‘wild isles’ and looking to home, with the fascination and love that we already have for the exotic and far away.
