Do you know

What clothes does Keith Brymer Jones wear?

It was a returned package we noticed first. A pair of jeans, wrapped up in our paper HebTroCo bag, covered with KBJ tape. “That’s Keith the potter off the telly”, I said to Ed, who had no idea what I was on about as he doesn’t have a TV.

Keith Brymer-Jones has been bringing pottery to the TV screens through “The Great Pottery Throwdown”, since 2015. His career in pottery began in the 90s as an apprentice, having briefly been the lead singer of a punk band (The Wigs, google it). Having completed his apprenticeship where he honed his skills in traditional ceramics he established his own studio in Highgate, producing ceramics for retailers such as Laura Ashley, Heal’s, Monsoon, Habitat, and Conran.

We sorted out his return (he wanted a shorter leg length) and dropped him an email to ask if he could very kindly make us some mugs.

The reply was quick “Of course I can. I’m a potter! That’s what I do!”

So that’s what we did. He made us first 50, then 100, then 500 “Don’t Be A Dick” mugs which we sold through our (now discontinued) homewares section. Every one of them was thrown by him, and packed by his partner Marj, complete with a pack of sweets. Smashing!

Keith’s been buying clothes from us for a few years now, starting with our slimmest jeans, and adding more items to his wardrobe as we’ve launched them. He’s dropped in occasionally when he’s had gaps in filming and he’s passing. And for the last few series of Pottery Throwdown, and his new series “Welsh Chapel Dream” we play “spot the HebTroCo item”.

He and Marj dropped in earlier this week, quite unannounced, and left with matching chopped duffles, DBAD scarves and a new pair of jeans (M16-JP – he likes a skinny cut!).

Pottery Throwdown starts second week of January – and we’ll be glued to it, for the throwing skills and craftmanship, not trying to see what he’s wearing! Honest!
