Solstice PlaylistA bit of folk, funk, soul, acid house and reggae
I’m DJing on Saturday, the day before you read this, at a summer solstice party organised by Moi Outside a cafe in Hebden Bridge. They have built a community of people who have formed around the love of coffee, outdoor pursuits, having a beer and a boogie. These are some of the records that I’ll be picking tracks from.
Record covers are wonderful. The artwork alone is glorious setting the mood or suggesting something of the culture of its time. Even the plain black sleeve, battered with use, telling nothing of the music but indicating that it has been played many, many times and has been loved.
This is not a playlist you can just play. You can’t click a link. You will have to let your fingers do some walking on your keyboard, or take to the streets with your actual feet and go on the hunt for these tunes if you’re curious. We always say that modern life is too easy, so here’s your chance to earn some culture!
We have folk, funk, soul, acid house and reggae. Music from all over the world that comes together in a box. The more music you explore the less the genres matter.
I’ll play the following tracks from these records:

A Guy Called Gerald, Voodoo Ray (Original Mix)
Strange Games And Funky Things III compiled by Kenny Dope: Roy Ayers / Everybody Loves The Sunshine
Tenor Saw, Fever: Pumpkin Belly
Jim Ghedi, Wasteland: Newtondale / Blue John
Bobbie Gentry, Touch ‘Em With Love: Touch ‘Em With Love
Trees, The Garden Of Jane Delawney: Road
Funkadelic, Maggot Brain: Can You Get To That
The Flying Hats, The Return Of The Flying Hats: Night Bus
Happy solstice. Enjoy the sun.
