A Diamond in the Valley – Satnam – Post Master

Satnam is the Post Master for Hebden Bridge. He’s a diamond and is much valued in our town, he knows everything that’s going on in the valley. If you need to know what happens where or who to speak to about whatever he is the man to go to.

We’re going to be sending out all our trousers through him. Made and sent from Hebden Bridge with love.

His Post Office got flooded badly on Boxing Day. The safe jammed and as it’s a bombproof unit made to withstand direct attack by a tank, it took days for the experts to get into it. Satnam worked round the clock to get up and running again and has managed to get the place going as an information hub and general get-stuff-done place.

His words now…

Hi this is me, Satnam Singh the Postmaster at Hebden Bridge Post Office.

I’ve been here for nearly seven years and have enjoyed every minute of it. During this time I have met some very interesting people from all walks of life. Creative and truly inspiring.

Running the PO has its responsibilities. We perceive ourselves as a kind of hub of the community and our role ranges from assisting, informing and ensuring members of the public receive the correct information and service.

Being self-employed gives me the flexibility to run the business how I want. Historically my family originate from the Punjab – now part of India. My parents arrived in the UK during the 60’s and have never stopped working hard since. Being brought up with this ethos, I possess the tendency to roll up my sleeves and get my hands dirty.

I’m very passionate about charity and helping those less fortunate. This is displayed by the random antics I do to tap money off people!

Hebden Bridge is a unique place and I feel Hebtroco only further displays the individuality. Their trousers kind of encapsulate the creativity and quality of the area.
