Twill Railway Jacket12oz cotton drill
Made in Britain from Lancashire-woven 100% organic cotton. The Railway Jacket is a HebTroCo staple that reflects the tough character of Japanese workwear. Designed by Amelia on our Calderdale cutting table, she’s reworked that heritage with signature HebTroCo details including generous, voluminous pockets and natural buttons made from horn. It’s a modern twist on a workwear classic that’s easy to wear and built to last.
Where longevity begins
On first glance, the Twill Railway Jacket is understated and super clean, but it’s packed with detail. Touch it and you’ll immediately realise this jacket means business. It feels sturdy and substantial, but also soft. The cloth has a denim-like character with colour on the outer face and a greyscale reverse, plus the texture of its hypnotic diagonal twill weave. But this isn’t denim, it’s drill. They share the same weave, yet where denim is rugged and rough, drill is smoother, giving the Railway Jacket its distinctive character.
The cloth is woven in Colne, Lancashire then finished at Halley Stevensons in Dundee. We sourced it through Brisbane Moss in nearby Todmorden, just a short drive or barge trip along the valley from us. It’s a rare treat to be able to find a hardwearing twill that’s British-made. For us, longevity of a garment always begins with the cloth, so when we find one that’s British-made it’s always a treasured bonus.

All our clothes are 'Past, Present and Future'
Respect for the vintage wear of the past is found here with style inspiration coming from a classic Japan Railways work jacket. We make clothes for the present, we’re not trying to reproduce what’s gone before. This jacket will serve you well for years to come as it’s made well from good materials and will stay stylish into the future.
The roots of our Railway Jacket lie deep in post-WW2 Japan workwear. Designed to balance function and durability for long hours spent working on the tracks or driving the trains, the original Japan Railway Work Jacket was focused in its form – something we admire and appreciate. We have a 1970s vintage example in our archive. Our design is paired down but keeps the spirit of smart utility.
