Melton Vest100% Wool / 12.7 OZ / Navy
Most vests out there are plagued with plastic. A cheap trick that mimics the real deal, but with half the clout. We don’t do things by half measures, that’s why our Melton Vest is 100% wool. Processed, woven and finished right here in Britain. Soft and sumptuous, tough and long-lasting. Cut as outerwear to layer over your bulky pieces. But versatile enough that it doesn’t look out of place over just a t-shirt. Classic navy that will pair with just about anything. A joy to wear and a pleasure to own.
Melton is a densely woven, hardwearing and weather-resistant wool cloth that was originally developed in Melton Mowbray – home of the pork pie. Today, it’s woven all over the worlds, and ours is woven at the Mallalieus mill in Delph, a 30-minute drive from our base in Calderdale.
This is the second time we’ve made a vest in this style. Same easy, wearable shape. Different colour, and a different melton cloth that’s heavier and has a raised finish – brushed to tease out the fibre ends. The result is a vest that feels more sumptuous, softer to the touch, and warmer on the body.
We class it as outerwear. It is not a waistcoat. It’s cut to sit comfortably over an overshirt – like our USB37 – but the same size will look equally as sharp worn over just a t-shirt. That versatility makes the Melton Vest an inter-seasonal grafter.
The D-shaped front pockets are generous and positioned to give your hands a comfortable spot to rest while you’re stood watching the world or waiting for the kettle to boil. Lined on the outer-face in a striking Royal Stewart tartan, echoed in the two internal pockets and hanging loop. The rest is beautifully finished with bound seams. No shortcuts. No loose edges. And because it’s unlined, you get that same soft raised Melton against your body too. Lovely.
