All hail the king of cord. Golden like the setting sun. This hefty overshirt is no lightweight. Clean design bursting with functionality. Enormous side seam and inside “bag for life” pockets. Made to last like everything we do.
There is debate about the origins of the word “corduroy”. Some argue that it comes from the French term “corde du roi” – cloth of the king – while others protest that its true roots lie on our side of the channel in 18th century British textiles. As far as we’re concerned, it was invented in Yorkshire, so everyone else can step off the bickering bus.
Corduroy is a fustian cloth (heavy woven cotton with a raised surface) and the B-side to moleskin at HebTroCo. The Calder Valley, where we’re based, is famous for once weaving it. During the Industrial Revolution, garments made of fustian were the clothes of the people, the original workwear. Hardwearing, warm and long lasting – everything someone needed to get through long days at the mill or labouring in the field.
Millwork and ploughing may not be commonplace these days but the perks of wearing corduroy still remain relevant.
Longevity is important, especially in our shared effort to live more sustainably.

I had my reservations about a yellow shirt – scared that it may be too loud or brash. Nonetheless, I took the plunge and trusted the taste of the good folks at Hebtroco. Oh boy was my trust rewarded… The shirt is absolutely stunning – like a warm, classy embrace. I would describe the colour as powder yellow with shades of amber or gold. The velvet-like cord shifts between those tones depending on light and angle. It can never be described as day-glo, or acid yellow – always rich and organic. I totally love this shirt. It’s got class written all over it. Yet another Hebtroco triumph. BTW, I’m 2 meters tall and 110Kg, and the XXL fits well.

Prior to this one being released I had thought perhaps I had enough overshirts – turns out there was room for one more. Material is a nice weight – flexible enough for all seasons, colour is bold, in a good way, and side seam/inner pockets provide great functionality. All in all, great item!
