Making of the Zero 6Our 2025 denim jacket on the machines in Walthamstow
These workshop production photos were sent to us by photographer Michael Jackson. He was working on a personal project and didn’t want anything for the photos. He simply went to the BOTHER of doing us a good turn when he looked at the labels in the jackets and identified us. Knowing how much people love to see the skill that goes into garment manufacture we are showing the photos here.
This Spring we introduced our Zero 6 jacket. We’re confident enough to say that it’s the best denim jacket we’ve ever done. It’s always great to see behind the scenes so here’s a virtual backstage ticket to see this garment in the making.
The design for the Zero 6 was born from two classic mid-century workwear jackets that hang in our vintage archive. Amelia waved her design wand to condense the styles, add more function and create something new and very HebTroCo. The Zero 6 pattern was designed and developed on our Calderdale cutting table then sent down to Blackhorse Lane Atelier in Walthamstow, London, to be cut and sewn into 200 jackets.
Workwear was traditionally intended for wearing on the job so the finish didn’t matter too much, especially on the inside. As long as it provided the function required for its wearer to do their job then it ticked all the boxes. Classic workwear pieces that have transitioned to “fashion” often inherit that rough-and-ready look. But not with this jacket. Blackhorse Lane who manufacture the Zero 6 Jacket for us (and all our jeans) pride themselves on the high quality tailoring finish applied to all their makes.
It really does look as good on the inside as it does on the outside!
Quality starts with the cloth, of course. For the Zero 6 we’ve chosen a 14oz indigo selvedge denim made from 100% Regenagri certified cotton – that’s cotton sourced from farms practicing regenerative agriculture. It’s woven in Milan by our favourite denim mill, Candiani. We’ve been sourcing our denim from them since 2019.
