Behind the seams at Yarmouth Oilskins
The Jacksnipe is brilliant. Simple, practical, stylish, looks good on everyone, in relaxed or even smart settings. It’s worth shouting about and so are the people who make them. We’re proud about what we do and the makers are proud of their work.
Based in Great Yarmouth, Yarmouth Oilskins started making in 1898, supplying fishermen with clothing, hosiery, seamen’s oil and waterproof clothing. Over the years they’ve supplied workwear and speciality waterproof garments to the industries of the sea.
They’re a small scale, independent company with a background in traditional workwear. Their story and values align well with ours.
Ed went over to visit Yarmouth this week with longterm HebTroCo friend Tim who makes films. He’s also a director for Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Eastenders, a detail that gets everyone on the factory excited when I let this information be known. We’re currently making a film about the Jacksnipe Overjacket as one of the HebTroCo bestselling styles. It’s been a couple of years since the first Jacksnipe was released. Every single jacket has been made by the team at Yarmouth. It’s always a pleasure dropping into the factory to see them.
