Wool from British sheep, woven into cloth in Oldham and expertly sewn into our overshirt in London. Truly British made to last and not just “inspired by” the great traditions of our land. Hardwearing and warm, beautifully woven English tweed. Blue sky reflected in the water of a tarn mixed with grey like the mist of the moorland tops. There’s just a hint of heather bloom and tiny darts of kingfisher blue.
A Masterpiece in British Wool
The USB36 is a perfect example of the pristine woollen cloth still produced in the UK using British wool. The design reflects a timeless piece of uniform that has transcended into everyday attire, but with high-quality manufacture.
The 36 is the third edition in the USB series. We’ve used the same quality British wool, spun and woven to the same heavy weight as its two predecessors (the USB34 & USB35). Ed has worn his USB34 through winter into spring, for walks over the moors, under his jacket on the motorbike, trips out to town. brant is never out of his and has even slept in it wild camping. Both have put the USB through its paces and it’s never faltered, still looking as good as the day it was new.
The USB36 will keep you warm, it will wear well and keep looking good unlike the mass market synthetic overshirts that are everywhere.

Woven by Mallalieus
One of Britain's last vertical textile mills
The Mallalieus mill has been weaving woollen fabrics since 1863. Today they remain a family-run operation, managing all processes in the production from the initial processing of the raw wool fibres to dyeing and spinning.
Mallalieus are masters of the melange, skilfully blending different coloured woollen yarns to create a subtle overall tone to their English tweeds. Out in full daylight take a close look. You’ll see blue sky reflected in the water of a tarn mixed with grey like the mist of the moorland tops. There’s just a hint of heather bloom and tiny darts of kingfisher blue. Over the long lifetime of ownership you will spend some loving moments staring at your shirt. Embrace it. It’s good to love what you wear.
Origins of the USB
This overshirt’s name is a merging of US (USA, a nod to this style’s origins) and B (British, from the wool it’s made from). Like many of our garments, we often look to the past to inform our design choices, favouring features and styles that have earned their status as vintage by surviving decades of wear. In the case of the USB overshirt we took our lead from a WW2 US Army shirt developed for wear in cold weather. Perfect really for life on the Pennines – a HebTroCo benchmark.

Product Care
It’s wool, it doesn’t need washing every time you wear it.
Do not machine wash. Do not dry clean. Do not iron.
If you absolutely have to, cool hand wash only. Dry flat on a table, do not hang on the line.

The USB 36 wool shirt/jacket arrived today, very quick service as usual from the team, couldn’t be happier. I looked in my wardrobe and saw a sea of green, brown shades, and denim of various types, so when this blue, grey mottled, wool overshirt came out it was a no brainer. Did I need it, nope, but defo wanted it! Cut wise it is very boxy and probably shorter than I would usually wear in XL, but it looks great on. Perfect cut, I like the collar shape, impeccable quality as we are to expect now. Just an all round fantastic jacket/shirt, if you want an ironshirt to stretch to further in the winter put this over the top and job done. Looks amazing on. It’s gonna be a favourite for a long time to come.
