GVNR Selvedge Denim

(17 customer reviews)

British made, using Candiani denim. Straight leg cut. 13oz, indigo dyed, sanforized raw denim from the world renowned Candiani mill.

Manufactured exclusively for HebTroCo in the north of England by the best in the game.

These jeans are meant to be worn with a turn up so that the selvedge is visible. They are shipped with a 2 inch turn up. So a 30in leg would be 32.5in turned down (the half inch extra is for shrinkage – the waist doesn’t shrink though!).

Check sizing below if ordering from us the first time. You’ll often need a size larger than many other brands as we don’t do vanity sizing.

AJ is wearing them in this first shot. He’s a mate of ours. 36 waist, 30 leg, He’s about 5’10”.

Hard wearing, high quality selvedge denim jeans at a great price. Straight leg cut with all the best HebTroCo features, and made right here in the north of England.

Medium-dark Indigo shade.

These jeans are meant to be worn with a turn up so that the selvedge is visible. This means that there is 2 inch extra length in the inseam and the turn up is pressed. A 32 inch leg length will therefore be 34 inch. We do 30, 32 and 34 inch leg lengths. Oh, and 28 leg now too!

What is selvedge?

Originally known as ‘self-edge’ the name refers to the tightly woven edge of the fabric which prevents unravelling. Selvedge is old style denim woven on narrow looms and typically has a more characterful appearance and a higher level of quality than mass produced denim. When selvedge jeans are rolled up this clean band is clearly seen. When new it will be quite stiff but will soften with wear and take the shape of your legs. As the rigidity goes the fit will appear slimmer.

You’ve bought a lovely pair of raw denim jeans. As they get older and start to fade you want to create your own fade lines rather than have the washing machine do it. If you want the best looking jeans wash at 3 to 6 month intervals. Follow our washing directions here. Don’t just stick them in the washing machine with everything. For best results drip dry, don’t spin, and definitely don’t tumble dry.

Will my jeans shrink?

The denim we use is raw. This means that it hasn’t been washed and hasn’t been through chemical colour-fast treatments. It has been sanforized though, which means that shrinkage on first wash will be minimal – less than 2% in length and 1% in width. This means that leg length will shorten by half to three quarters of an inch. Waist shrinkage is negligible. Jeans may tighten a little in the waist, but will loosen after wear. They will only lose half an inch in length.

Is this eco denim?

‪Working with Italian denim masters, Candiani, the world’s most Eco denim mill, our selvedge denim has the highest environmental credentials.

‪At all stages of manufacture, environmental sustainability is at the forefront of the selvedge production with BCI cotton, microplastics free dye process, solar power and water recycling just some of the process that are used. ‬

Love my denim jeans which Santa sorted out for me! I’ve got Governor canvas and moleskin and the fit is excellent, and consistent. Worth the wait since they were teased earlier in 2019. I’m now looking forward to wearing them and seeing how long I can go without washing them! 3-6 months is going to be a challenge

Starting with a superb fabric, HebTroCo has produced a wonderfully unique pair of selvedge denim that shows their attention to detail, passion and ethos! The fit is very comfortable and out of this world! The details are unique. The jeans come up with the cuff rolled up and pressed! Ready to take on anything. Fabric is wonderfully smooth and soft even though its raw. In short, you’ve hit the ball out of the park! Keep it up gentlemen and wishing you all the best.

Bought from the first batch. Best jeans I’ve ever owned. Great quality. Good, ‘comfy’ fit. My partner’s comment was: ‘Hmmm, they are a really cool colour, do they do womens?’ Look great with boots. Order your ‘normal’ length, the turn up is factored in. I’ll acquire a second pair in due course. I’ve seen some comments about Hebtroco pricing. The answer is these are well made, top quality, British-made trews. And decent selvedge denim jeans often cost far more than these.

Armani, Versace, Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, I’ve tried the lot. These are the best jeans I’ve ever worn. The highest quality materials and craftsmanship are evident in these trousers, the attention to detail is very impressive and they’re ethically sourced. Good value for money in my opinion.- On a general note I appreciate that the guys look after their staff , and there principled eco stance, reasons why I’m a regular customer. – Nice of the guys to throw in a woollen hat to compensate for the delay. – Selvedge Denim Jeans get a big thumbs up from me.

I love the jeans and cannot wait to get out and about in them – great design, detail and quality feel.

Just now I received the GVNR jeans, another great pair of trousers I’ll wear often.

A key worker has just delivered my wonderful jeans. Wow just perfect ! I brought some vintage 501s in New York some years ago and these fit the same. Keep up the good work and stay safe.

Ordered the blue jeans a while back. They fit really well and feel a bit like my first pair of Levis (so that’s the 1970’s), the denim was a bit stiff but still comfortable. After their first wash they soften without much shrinkage. Great jeans… so I’m back with an order for some black jeans!
Before I ordered my first pair I emailed across a couple of questions and the way they responded convinced me they were serious about looking after their customers. £150 is a hefty price, but it still feels like good value. Thanks

Got mine from the first batch and six months in, they are the best jeans I’ve ever had. The quality and finish is superb, well worth the money. They’re going to outlast anything I’ve he’d before.

As good as it gets – which I what I expect from HebTroCo these days…I pretty much take it for granted. I’ve gone from just putting up with regular jeans to these – top, top quality. And while I never gave much thought to clothes before, they’re good enough to have even sparked an interest for me in what I’m wearing. They feel good, look good and are well worth the money – and I can’t ask for more than that.

Well what can I say that hasn’t been said before! The quality of these jeans has to be seen to be believed…in build (well they are British made) and in quality of cloth. I have the slimmer 177 model but put my review on here as I cant review the 177 for some reason (Ed?) But they are of the same superb manufacture and to say I am chuffed with them is an understatement! They look very dapper wore with my Harris Tweed jacket and Northampton made Cheaney and Alfred Sargent brouge boots and shoes.
Respect to all at Hebtroco you are doing a fine job.

Just received my pair. Amazing quality and cut. Sustainable as they will last. Not fast fashion. Fit like a dream. The denim has a lovely crispy feel to a mid weight denim. I have a pair of Huit Jeans which I also love but at £75 more these are a no brainer. Well done lads. It’s great to see that even in the Pandemic you are building a brand and turning out quality.

Bloody love these bought as a treat to myself. First time I’ve ever spent more than £50 on s pair of jeans and put off purchase for ages due to this but well worth every penny. Fantastic service arriving 2 days after ordering and having a very friendly helpful phone conversation with one of the guys prior to ordering. Great material, fit just as I hoped, look fantastic, great detailing, design and craftsmanship. Brought a big smile to my face and feel great supporting a small local business rather than some bigger well known brand. Also in support of their ethos, values, and environmental stance. Can’t recommend them enough, and just do it it, don’t wait as long as me!! I will definitely order more gear from them in future.

I’ve always gone for Edwin Nashvilles when buying selvedge but saw the Hebtroco site and thought I’d branch out. Ordered Sunday afternoon, delivered Tuesday morning. The jeans are fantastic and fit perfectly. The quality of the denim and the manufacturing is obvious from the moment you take the jeans out of the bag but hey, you’d expect this when paying for a premium product. What puts Hebtroco ahead of the rest is the buying experience. It’s a great looking site. The sizing information is clear and well explained, giving you confidence you’re actually going to end up with jeans that fit (I’ve got long legs and often struggle to find the right leg length). The quality of communication that Hebtroco provide with order confirmation, despatch notification and care & return information inside the package is second to none. These guys obviously care about what they’re doing. Will definitely be returning for more.

After buying a pair of 177 Moleskins back in 2017, that for me have been the best trousers I’ve owned, when I saw that HebToCo were doing jeans I wanted a pair and after a bit of sweet talking the wife, I finally got some. Unfortunately the first pair didn’t work out due to being between sizes, but the replacement size down pair are now, after some breaking in, spot on. I’ve seen a few people online moan and groan about the price, but for me they’re a bargain when you consider the quality. The equivalent Iron Heart for example would cost way over £200. The service is worth a mention too, which was very good. Definitely be ordering more stuff in the future. Cheers!

Wore the jeans without a wash for about 5 months and hung them outside. But now they have been washed 3 times I’m not really able to turn them up, so disappointed with that aspect.
On the important side the jeans are super comfy and I’m proud in being able to support a British company.

Selvedge Denim does need extra care when washing more frequently – we hope to have news of a new product that fixes that soon. Thanks for the support.

  17. Andy Fryer

    Excellent jeans!

It’s obvious from the moment you hold them that these are a substantial pair of jeans. The denim is robust; the buttons and pockets and stitching similarly strong.

They do take a little wearing in, particularly if sitting around a lot, but once they’ve adapted, they are comfortable and reassuringly solid.
