Duffle Vest100% Wool / 16oz / Teasel Grey
Heavyweight and sumptuous. Lofty and warm - you’ll reach for it every morning. Designed by Amelia at our Calderdale cutting table. 100% woollen cloth woven in Delph, West Riding of Yorkshire. Cut and sewn by proper duffle-coat specialists in London. No faking it for the sake of fashion, this is the real deal, only the good stuff.
Not faking it.
The cloth is a herringbone weave, the kind of fabric you rarely see these days because it takes time, effort and people who actually know what they’re doing. The herringbone structure sheds water, shrugs off abrasion and traps warm air. Extra picks crammed into the weave make it heavier, warmer, firmer and more windproof than your usual tweed. It’s not delicate. It’s not lightweight. It’s built for real life.
Weaving and finishing takes 4–8 weeks because it’s done properly. Mallalieus full the cloth to thicken it, raise the nap for softness and warmth, and press it smooth. The nap is raised using a traditional teasel jig – real teasels, actual thistle heads – because nothing synthetic comes close. It’s old-school craft, and the result feels incredible.
The finished vests are cut and sewn to our pattern and spec by London Tradition in Hackney Wick, masters of the duffle. The whole thing comes together as a proper bit of kit: warm, hard-wearing, comfortable and absurdly wearable. Frankly, once it’s on, you won’t be seen out of it.
We’re proud of this one. You should be too.

quick note from a serial vest … attemptee (??).
use of vests has been tried in the past several times around here (for functional reasons mainly…keep cold at bay and all that)… the development of a habit was never successful (always a difficult piece to wear/ match etc …some people might just not be too keen on the grandpa look)…that until, one day, the hebtroco duffle thing appeared on the horizon.
man, this is a vest! beautiful, solid fabric, a great cut, easy to wear with everything … and very warm!
many thanks!

Got this at the Pop-up thingy in Manchester recently. It wasn’t on my ‘buy list’ but more an impulse buy on the day. It’s a really unique piece but surprisingly versatile as it goes with anything really. The lightish grey on the picture is true to likeness.
It has turned out to be a great cold weather item. It’s way warmer than it looks with a great fit, a soft and cosy feel. A few people have commented in it so it’s not just my eyes that like the cut and the subtle but tough bold weave. Recommended, get one before its too warm to enjoy.

Beautiful vest. Has an exceedingly traditional look and feel to it. Seems to be practically windproof, too. Really looking forward to wearing it in, so that it looks ‘mine’.

This is a great piece. Its made from a wonderful warm and cosy material which doesn’t feel ‘spiky’. it is remarkably warm and looks great without being too funky, just easy to wear. The colour is a mid grey and the pictures are true to this colour. Well made and great to wear and made in the UK. Perfect.
