Handmade in Manchester and hand screen printed in Mytholmroyd.

It’s with great pleasure that we’re launching the first in a series of hand dyed shirts from the hard-to-pronounce place right next to where we’re from.

This first t-shirt, limited to a run of 50 has been hand screenprinted by Stanley. He runs his workshop in a tiny disused electrical substation, five minutes walk from our unit door. We like the idea that his setup stands on foundations that once supported tens of thousands of volts. It’s powerful stuff.

185gsm cotton, the same as all our other made in Manchester t-shirts. Hand screen printed front and back with our own art work.

The design is a remix of our classic HebTroCo skull and swallow icons. Drawn for us by doodlher; when she’s not gluing her illustrations on alley walls, she’s Vic at HebTroCo, building web pages and making merchandising magic.

Those that struggle to pronounce HebTroCo will have no chance with Mytholmroyd. Newscasters and politicians frequently look like twats when they try. Here’s what you need to be in the know.

Championing local makers

We first met Stanley on a freezing day in December on Todmorden (can you pronounce that?) Market where he sells locally baked bread. He was wearing a pair of HebTroCo moleskin jeans that he’d picked up from Oxfam in town. We got chatting and he explained how he was printing tie dye stuff in a unit he was renting for peanuts after it was flood damaged. Good local connections lead to great products.

From regenerative farming practices to sustainable end product

These T-shirts are made from Australian Super Cotton which has a long staple (fibre) length. This means you can create a stronger garment out of less yarn. Fewer fibres in turn mean softness and a more luxurious feel. The raw premium cotton feels very soft and silky, with a bit of a shine to it, similar to wool.

Cotton comes from a single origin which is Glenn Rogan’s family farm in St George, Australia. Glenn voluntarily uses Best Management Practices (myBMP) whilst growing his cotton.

Made in Manchester, tie dyed in Mytholmroyd

All our t-shirts are made in Manchester. The raw cotton arrives as a bale at English Fine Cottons, where it’s spun into thread. Manchester was the original Cottonopolis. This is a proper British t-shirt.

Every bale has its own unique number, so we can trace each one back to the harvest date and even its location in the field. Keep it geeky, keep it cool.
