Another winner! The moleskin fabric has a lovely feel to it, the cut is great and the workmanship is first class. Any downsides? Well people seem to want to stroke it. You may be okay with that kind of behaviour though

“HebTroCo originally started with moleskin trousers & this wonder fabric continues to be a key part of our range. It’s warm, soft, looks great and wears well.”

No, moleskin isn’t made from moles…

Moleskin does not COME from moles, it just feels like a mole’s skin.

This tough heavy fabric is made from densely woven cotton, initially looped, then sheared which creates a short soft pile on the upper side. It looks and feels a bit like chammy and some sorts of velvet, but is actually far tougher than either.

Moleskin is popular for hunting, building work, and countryside use due to its ability to shrug off damage, keep clean, be “quiet” in use, as well as being breathable, and comfortable even when wet.

Originally developed in the industrial days, moleskin was used as an alternative to woollen cloth for jackets and trousers. It was chosen for its warmth and hard wearing qualities. Later it was adopted by country people for its ability to resist thorns as well as the cold wind.

Warm and wind resistant. Our moleskin garments are ideal for autumn, winter and early spring wear. They’re durable and tough, and ideal for outdoor use whatever the weather.

Finished with natural buttons, not plastic.

People tried to put us off. They told us about the trouble and expense of using UK-made buttons… but we ignored them.

It turns out they were right…  Our buttons are about 50 times more expensive than a plastic mass-produced button from overseas.

They are also 50 times better.

Our buttons are made of Corozo palm nuts. They are harvested from sustainable rainforests in Ecuador, where trees are planted and maintained rather than being cut down.

This means that our nuts are green and they are very special. As well as being natural the material is tough, takes colour well and gives a pleasing marbled effect.

Care Guide

Quality is amazing, and true to size, as with all Hebtroco products. The garment is flawless. I love the cut.

It’s funny I’ve never really deliberated over a shirt purchase as much as this one…. Is it a shirt or a jacket, do I need to spend so much on one thing which I won’t wear this time of year…. Well. Glad I did buy it! It’s a bit stiff out of the pack but a swift run through the washing machine knocked it back a bit. The moleskin fabric is soft to touch but feels tough as nails. It’s warm to wear but undo the buttons and it’s perfect for a summer evening over a t-shirt. The cut is comfy, tending towards boxy – probably size down if you’re a skinny fit type. There’s ample pockets for your hands and other gubbins. It’s clearly made with care and attention. Verdict: don’t deliberate, buy it.

Andy Warho. Andy Warhol. As in Moles.

This is an outstanding garment. I loved it from first look a couple of weeks ago and much as I do enthusiasm to the max (in many things), I’m still hugely in love with it.

An added bonus is the colour. Not just the depth to it but the fact that you know the huns are going to hate it. Huns, to the uninitiated are fans of the institution known as Rangers FC. They’re not allowed to wear green.
