What is Bedford Cord?
It looks like a flattened cord but it’s not a corduroy at all. Cord has a raised finish that’s cut into wales, whereas Bedford cord is woven with thicker filling yarns as well as thinner ones.
This durable and hardwearing cloth was first made in Britain by Flemish weavers in the late 15th century. It adopted the name Bedford as that was the town it originally came from.
Bedford Cord is renowned its durability. It’s been used for generations in hard-wearing applications like equestrian clothing and upholstery, which tells you a lot about its strength. But when you actually handle it, you might be surprised. It’s not coarse or rugged. It’s soft, comfortable and easy to wear from day one.
Like moleskin, Bedford cord isn’t used by many brands, probably because of price. We love the weight, the soft feel, the long-lasting qualities as well as the way the fabric drapes when worn, something you don’t get with lightweight or cheaper cloth.

Over the years, our partnership has grown into something special, and every now and then, Bob sweetens the deal by delivering us a box of his famously delicious samosas.

Our size charts show the flat measurements of each garment.
Since everything we do is made by hand, there can be a slight variation between pieces (up to 2% either way is considered within tolerance). Natural fibres can also shift slightly during production, with a bit of stretch or shrinkage being part of the process.
Any questions at all please email us and we'll do our best to guide you.
