Hebden Bridge is a remarkable place that’s remarkably placed. It’s where we’re from. Tucked in a valley in the heart of the South Pennines, the town is a convergence for rivers, canals and railways, and gathers people from surrounding areas, many of whom arrive in town by railway at our wonderful local station.
The station cafe is a remarkable place too, with an independent homespun feel, during the day stocked with nice sandwiches and cakes, good tea and coffee. But in the evening at weekends, it changes.
Elly & Sean Pattison-Walker run Pig and Barrel, the pop up bar that opens Fri 4-10pm, Sat 3:30-10pm. They’ve got an amazing variety of drinks on offer – with over 80 carefully selected and exclusive gins, each expertly served with tonic and complimenting trimmings. There’s also an ever changing local cask and keg beers too.
It’s a brilliant use of a temporary space, great as a destination itself, a stopping off point somewhere, or a chance to buy train beer if you’re going somewhere.
For us, it didn’t end there. We were so impressed with the Pig and Barrel, that the owner, Sean, is our first HebTroCo employee, and spent yesterday picking and packing orders, as well as helping us organise the next Bizarre Bazaar – Saturday 16th September
